TurboTax Says I Made Excess HSA Contributions

My husband has $3,300 in HSA contributions on his W-2. I have $2,700 on mine (both box 12, code W).  For some reason, TurboTax is claiming that I've made an excess HSA contributions.  It shows on form 8899 , line 6 Smart Worksheet that  Line A is $7,200, as is Line B.   For some reason, Line C says $6,600 and therefore Line D is $600.  I'm not sure why it's doing this.  We've definitely contributed under the limit.  Any ideas?  I believe it's taxing me $600 plus the 6% excess tax penalty.

TurboTax Says I Made Excess HSA Contributions

Make sure that you didn't report the contribution again on your return. Contribution through your employer is reported on your W-2 and shouldn't be reported again.

Also if you are not eligible, you will have excess contribution.

To be eligible to contribute to an HSA in 2021, you:

  • Must have been covered by a high-deductible health plan (HDHP)
  • Didn't have Medicare or other secondary health insurance policy
  • Weren't eligible to be claimed as a dependent on another return, no matter if you were claimed or not.
