splitting proceeds with spouse of sale of primary residence

My spouse and I file Married filing separately.  We sold our primary residence which we owned jointly.  I would like to split the sale between each of us for filing separately.  How do I show that?

When you walk through the steps to enter your 1099-S  you will just need to split the selling price, expenses and cost basis between the two of you instead of entering the full amount, enter half on each of your returns.

To enter the Sale of a Home select the following:

  • Federal
  • Income
  • Sale of Home under Less Common Income
