RV interest paid

How to report RV interest paid for which a 1098 was not received? Manually going to Schedule A, I can enter the dollar amount. I think I'm supposed to note where I paid the interest, which is my bank. Am I OK to only report the dollar amount with no other information on Schedule A line 8b? TT Premier for Windows is not letting me indicate that I did not receive a 1098 in the Home Int Wkst.

If you click on line 8a of Schedule A to hi-light it, you will see a magnifying glass.  Click on the magnifying glass and it will open a box where you can either select an existing Home Mortgage Interest  Worksheet, or create new one.  If you have already entered a Form 1098 then create a new worksheet.  You can enter the lender's name and any other relevant information on the worksheet.

Thank DavidD66, but when I do that the Worksheet Line 3a is checked YES that the interest was reported on a 1098. The NO box cannot be checked.

RV interest paid

Simply enter the interest in the 1098 screen even though you don't have the form. You are allowed to include the interest on your RV as a home or second home. If the IRS has questions later you can always respond and have your interest statement record.

  • Search (upper right) > 1098 > click the Jump to... link OR Deductions & Credits > Mortgage Interest
