Last year on form 8915-E we were not required to Input a disaster name, a disaster beginning date. form 8915-F - it was saying FEMA Disaster Number required.

Appendix B Qualified Disaster Areas by Year from Instructions for Form 8915-F states:

Virus SARS-CoV-2 or coronavirus disease 2019 (referred to collectively in these instructions as coronavirus)

Are you able to enter 'Coronavirus' or 'Virus SARS-CoV-2' and pass Federal Review?

At the screen Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?, I clicked Yes, you had a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution.

I also checked If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here.

Where were you asked to input a FEMA number?

Did either of you take a disaster distribution at any time between 2018 and 2020?

I answered yes, it then said to return to 1099 screen

Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2021?

Unfortunately, you were given incorrect information by the Turbotax expert and the Federal Review instruction. If you enter "Coronavirus" under disaster name during Federal Review, it will end up on Section C of form 8915-F. The instruction on the form is to not put Coronavirus on that line. Instead the Coronavirus checkmark should be checked in Section D, which is very likely already checked for you. You can verify this if you view your tax return and look at form 8915-F for yourself.

Tech support will likely have to delete the incorrect naming in Section C as I don't know of a way to manually edit the form inside the software.

This bug is unfortunate and hopefully they fix before people have their returns rejected or scrutinized unnecessarily.

Dear Turbo Tax expert, your advice was unfortunately incorrect. Here is my copy and paste response to the customer with the issue.

Wonderful, I already filed so I'm assuming this will red flag my taxes.  I'm guessing no way to fix it after you file. Thank tax expert

Your return likely will still be accepted. You could amend your return though so you don't have any issues down the road.
