HSA "excess contribution" erroneously entered previous tax returns

While working on my 2023 return on Turbotax, discovered I am in excess in HSA contributions.  I made the "duplication" of contributions error on previous returns- 2022, 2021. Turbotax is reporting i am in excess of ~$14k of excess contribution. I can now see the error I made on those returns.  We never made any excess contributions.  What is the best course of action to take?

HSA "excess contribution" erroneously entered previous tax returns

If you make bad entries on your 2021 and 2022 returns that caused TurboTax to think that you made excess contributions, then the most accurate thing to do is to amend 2021 and 2022.

Note: that you can amend 2021 and 2022 only on the desktop software as the Online system is only for the current year (2023).

"How do I amend my return from a prior year?"

Note: you will want to amend 2021 on your desktop then migrate 2021 tax file to the 2022 software on your desktop. Then you will want to migrate the 2022 tax file to the 2023 software if Online otherwise you may need to buy the 2023 desktop software, and migrate the 2022 tax file to the 2023 desktop program.
