I'm sorry, I thought you were talking about the $1,400 stimulus payment, I should have read your question more completely!
It is unclear at this point in time how the additional child tax credit will work. It is possible that it will consist of a stimulus payment, or simply allow you to reduce your tax withheld to account for your smaller tax liability when you file your tax return next year.
The IRS has a record of your dependents either off of your 2020 tax return or the one from 2019, so they will send you the proper amount of stimulus for your dependents based on that information.
Thanks for the reply.... Are you talking about the $1400.00 per depend on the 3rd stimulus check ? Because I'm talking about the additional tax credit that people will get per child when they file taxes now. I already filed my 2020 taxes and I did not get any additional tax credits, I already got my tax refund, will I get a separate check for each of my depends ? ( in addition to the 3rd stimulus check ).
Or how do I claim this additional tax credit ?
Thanks in advance

Thank you for that information.
If you don't mind I will pick your brain once more.
I usually file my taxes with the H & R people but this year I decided to give turbo tax a chance... I provided at the end of my filling, my checking account and routing number just like I used to do with H & R but for my surprise I got a check.
Would you happen to know why ? Or the possible reasons ?
Thanks again
The IRS must have decided to send a check instead of a direct deposit, and we don't know why. They have been known to issue debit cards as well. The possible reason could be that the IRS is overwhelmed with sending millions of refunds and stimulus amounts, and could have utilized different departments with different methods of payments.
Thanks for your reply, so you are saying that it would have nothing to do with the fact that I made my taxes wit TurboTax this year instead of the other guys or Tha I might have made a mistake ?
Thanks again
If you've already filed your 2020 taxes, please refer to the following TurboTax article:
How will the third stimulus impact me?
The American Rescue Plan provides relief for millions of Americans through numerous measures, including a third round of stimulus checks, unemployment benefit extensions, and expansions of the Child Tax Credit and the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
This means if you qualify for a third stimulus check, you could get up to $1,400 for each taxpayer in your household plus $1,400 for each dependent.
To find out if you are eligible and how much you can expect, visit our stimulus calculator.
Do I need to apply to get a stimulus check?
You don’t need to do anything to get your stimulus check. The IRS will determine eligibility based on your last tax return (either 2019 or 2020) and will likely send your payment to the bank account where your tax refund was deposited. If you haven’t filed your 2020 return yet, you can do that now to give your most recent information to the IRS, including bank account or address information to help ensure your stimulus check goes to the right place.
When will I get my stimulus check?
The IRS has not announced a date yet, but we will provide an update here as soon as it becomes available.

Will the stimulus affect my taxes for this year? Or next year?
Do I need to file a 2020 tax return to get a stimulus check if I don’t normally file taxes?

Will I get a stimulus check if someone claimed me as a dependent?
Just to clarity, my question has nothing to do with the stimulus check amounts.
All I wanted know is:
A- Why did I get check for my tax return if I provided Turbo Tax with my bank account information ?
B- How do I get the benefit of the the EXTRA CHILD CREDITS that all other Americans that have Not filed taxes yet, will get, if I already filled ( I believe you already gave me an answer for this, Not happy with it, but ... )
Thanks again
We do not know why the IRS issued a check instead of a direct deposit in a checking account. Was this mailing address part of your 2019 tax information?
This TurboTax Help states:
You don’t need to do anything to get your stimulus check. The IRS will determine eligibility based on your last tax return, either 2019 or 2020, and will likely send your payment to the bank account where your tax refund was deposited.
We do not know how the IRS determines what mailing address that they use or what bank information is used.
If your 2020 Federal 1040 tax return was accepted, we do not know whether the IRS will be using 2019 tax information or 2020 tax information.

The Expanded Child Tax Credit begins in tax year 2021 (next year's tax return) but advance payments may begin in July of 2021. The IRS will be issuing information about this benefit in the near future.
This TurboTax Help states:
Expanded Child Tax Credit
Beginning in tax year 2021(the taxes you file in 2022) the Child Tax Credit will be expanded. The bill increases the amount that families claiming the Child Tax Credit receive from $2,000 to:
The credit is now fully refundable – that means that you are eligible for the credit even if you don’t owe taxes.
Although this credit is for next year’s tax filings, payments will also be sent in advance, over the course of the year, beginning no earlier than July 2021 so people don’t have to wait to file their 2021 taxes. The IRS will likely determine eligibility based on your most recent tax filing.
Thank you 😊
I have the same question
The IRS is reviewing implementation plans for the newly enacted American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. Additional information about a new round of economic impact payments
The IRS strongly urges taxpayers not to file amended returns related to the new legislative provisions or take other unnecessary steps at this time. The IRS will provide taxpayers with additional guidance on those provisions that could affect their 2020 tax return..
For those who haven't filed yet, the IRS will provide a worksheet for paper filers and work with software industry to update current tax software to address concerns regarding issues like yours.
TurboTax is developing the software required to process all of the new conditions.
Here is a TurboTax article about the American Rescue Plan.
