How can I enter adoption credit carry forward

Hello,  I filed last year (2023) and exceed the maximum allowed of $15,950. How do I enter credit carry forward for 2024? Is there a row on (2023) 8839 form that specify that amount? Say the total qualified adoption expenses is $X, is the  amount $X - $15950 correct for 2024 form for carrying forward from 2023? Thanks!

In the Adoption Credit section you will be asked about a carryforward from the prior tax year.

On the Form 8839 the carryforward amount is entered on Line 13.

Thank you for your answer. If my qualified adoption expenses (2023 Form 8839 - line 5 is $16,950), on 2024 Form 8839 Line 13, can I enter $16,950 - $15,950 (last year max) = $1,000?

If you had a $1,000 adoption credit carryover from 2023 then it would be entered on the 2024 Form 8839.

on my 2023 tax return, form 8839, lines 13, 14, 15 and 16 all have the same dollar amount.  do i still use what is on line 13 for the 2024 carryforward amount?

No, if line 15 is not smaller than line 14, you do not have a credit carryforward. @zielot111
