Here is what the response from Intuit employees SHOULD BE:
"We want to apologize for the many mistakes we have made regarding the 8936 form. As a company, we feel terrible for making many of you wait for a form that was available from the IRS weeks ago, and also for saying the form was ready and then having your returns that were already submitted being rejected because of our own stupid calculation mistake. The programmer who worked on this form has been terminated, and it has been turned over to a more capable programmer who should have been the one working on this in the first place. We guarantee that the form will be available tomorrow, February 20. After you resubmit your return with the corrected 8936, your return should be accepted by the IRS within 24 hours. Also, to further express our regret and ease your frustration, we are offering everyone who has been affected the following:
- We will provide you with a free copy of whatever version of TurboTax that you prefer for the next 5 tax years (2020-2024).
- We will refund what you paid for the current version of TurboTax.
- We will give you an additional $100.
We will be reaching out to those who have been affected. If you were affected by these mistakes and you don't hear from us via e-mail by February 25, please e-mail us at [email address removed].
We hope that you will forgive us for this mistake and that our efforts to make this up to you can earn your business in the future".
THAT is the kind of reply we should have received from Intuit employees, not the worthless [removed] that they have been posting.
Hopefully the TT team advances the update and extends even a portion of the above suggestions......
I will not use TT anymore if they don't give me some reasonable compensation.
Very likely TT doesn't care, because only few people bought electric cars, used their form 8936 and filed. 0.1% of their customer? or less?
Yep, they likely have a Milton sitting in the basement with his red stapler working on this.
Too bad they don't realize that word of mouth IS a real thing, and they'll be losing more than just the .1%
"By 2019, nearly 40% of U.S. taxpayers filed online and some 40 million of them did so with TurboTax, far more than with any other product."
Do you think TT will care about a few tens people affected here?
@pengxiao Do you think only "tens people" bought an Electric/Hybrid car in 2019?
Tens people bought electric cars, used TT form 8936 and efiled before yesterday.
Or say hundreds, thousands. Compare to 40 millions.
"a few tens people affected here"
Is the form working for every other company? I'm getting ready to file through someone else. Possibly freetaxusa. its ridiculous at this point
I think it's actually a huge number of affected people. There were at least 300K cars sold last year (based on 2018 numbers), and TurboTax is used by about (very roughly) ⅓ of tax filers. Applying that ratio to the number of cars purchased (which is a VERY rough, back-of-the-napkin kind of estimate), it's a safe bet that we're looking at closer to 100,000 TurboTax users were affected by this bug.
But not that many people efiled in the past a few days.
form 8936 is fixed and working
Lets hope irs accept.
Downloaded the update. If you previous adjusted the $7,500 amount manually to $3,750 or $1,875, you need to UNDO that adjustment and put $7,500 back in that box. TurboTax is now multiplying whatever you have in there by 50% or 25% if you purchased a vehicle that is in the phase out period. Will be interested to see if they have managed to screw this up again.
In other news, 8911 is now available too if you installed new alternative fuel vehicle refueling property.
I just did this (and added the charging station too). Now I'm pending again. Wish me luck!
