I would like to use the federal itemized deduction even though it's less than the standard deduction because it will result in lower state taxes that more than offset the extra federal tax. How can I do this?

After you have entered all of your eligible itemized deductions, TurboTax will display the results showing you that the standard deduction is what it recommends.  On this screen, select Change my deduction - this typically appears as a button near the bottom.  A pop-up will appear, allowing you to confirm the selection to itemize, and it will display the resulting change to your federal refund or balance due.  Confirm your choice here and select Continue.
