If you have a child and you are the custodial parent, you may elect to give the child's exemption to the other parent, but still use that child to apply for the Earned Income Tax Credit, as well as the Child and Dependent Care Credit and possibly Head Of Household filing status.

In the Personal Info section, click on "Add a Dependent".

When you get to the screen that asks if you have an agreement with the other parent, answer "Yes"

The next screen will ask if the other parent is claiming the child this year and you again answer "Yes".

You should not get the child's $4050 exemption, but you can apply for the credits.
