No option to add an adult dependant

Did you add her under My Info?  That's where you add dependents.

No option to add an adult dependant

Please follow the steps below to add your mother as a dependent:

  1. Click on Tax Home on the left Menu.
  2. On the Main Screen, click on Personal Info and click on Continue.
  3. You will see a Personal Info Summary Page. On that screen, you will see an option for "Add a Dependent". Click on that and enter the information.

Please refer to the image below for further reference.

Thanks for the help.

I added her but something don't look right, on my deduction and credits summary I'm only getting $500 on "child and other dependant tax credit", when I have her and 3 kids as dependants, I got $2300 last year, on additional I got 2020 $4200 and this year $4500, I'm comfused

Other dependents, anyone 18 and up, is a $500 credit on your return. The tax laws have completely changed for this year only with many of the rules regarding kids. Next year, 17 and up will be other dependents. The child tax credit varies with the age for the amount, see What is the Child Tax Credit?

Your advance credit is money you are used to seeing at refund time but this year may have half of it early.

EIC is also increased for this year in both age and income limits.

To view your return,

  • If you are using the online version:
    1. go to Tax Tools,
    2. then select Tools,
    3. select View Tax Summary,
    4. on the left side, select Preview My 1040.
  • In the desktop program, switch to forms mode.

See your 1040:

  • verify dependents are showing at the top and the boxes are marked correctly. Everyone under 18 is child tax credit, everyone over is Other dependent.
  • Next move to line 27 for EIC,
  • line 28 child tax credit the full amount for each from the article above minus what you already received,
  • line 30 if you didn't get all of your stimulus,
  • on schedule 3, and page 2,13g would have child care credit
