I am trying to enter a negative amount on the 1099-MISC form in Box 3. I have done this for the past several years, but now I am getting an error saying the number "must be at least 0." I am entering a negative amount because it is a nontaxble employer student loan reimbursement.

If you need to make a negative adjustment to take away income that was reported on Form 1099-MISC, use the steps below to report the income and report the same amount as a negative adjustment. Ignore the messaging that says do not enter Form 1099-MISC in this manner.
The end result is that no additional income is reported on your return, but there are two income entries shown on Schedule 1 line 8z.
Thank you. When I try to move on, I am getting a Check This Entry message saying Form 8919-T: Wages is too small. The negative number I entered is listed on Line 6 of total wages
The original IRS form 1099-MISC that you entered has been entered as additional wages that were not reported on a W-2.
This entry was reported under Less Common Income, then Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C, then Other income not already reported on a form W-2 or Form 1099.
Remove your original entry.
Then re-enter the original entry using the steps outlined by @AnnetteB6. Report the income as a positive number.
The entries will offset each other and be listed on line 8z of Schedule 1 of the Federal 1040 tax return.
