Although your child is too old to receive the child tax credit, he is not too old to be claimed as a dependent. Follow the directions below to remove him from your return.

  1. Log in and click take me to my return (unless already in).
  2. Click the My Info tab from the left-side menu.
  3. On the next screen, you will see your personal information listed.
  4. Click the trash can beside your child's name.

Although your child is too old to receive the child tax credit, he is not too old to be claimed as a dependent. Follow the directions below to remove him from your return.

  1. Log in and click take me to my return (unless already in).

My child turned 17 in November of 2020, so from what the IRS says she isn't qualified, yet Turbo Tax says nothing it wrong and we do qualify?

The 2020 Child Tax Credit is available to taxpayers who have children who are under age 17 at the end of the tax year.  Be sure to check the DOB in the Dependent section of Personal Info.  If using TT Desktop (CD/download), be sure you are using the 2020 (not 2019) program.
