Moving expenses

Hello - In 2015, I was living in Illinois and almost graduated from nursing school.  I was up for a job in Oregon (had flown out for the 1st interview and driven out for the 2nd interview), and so had to apply for an Oregon RN license, prior to graduation.  Graduated in Dec. 2015.  RN license obtained Jan 2016.  I had not gotten the job, but had the license.  Thus, moved to Oregon in Feb 2016 and found work later in Feb 2016.  Could this move in Feb 2016 be considered under job-related moving expenses?

Moving expenses

Yes, your moving expenses are considered job-related and may be deductible.

From IRS  Publication 521:

Who Can Deduct Moving Expenses

You can deduct your moving expenses if you meet all three of the following requirements.

  • Your move is closely related to the start of work.

  • You meet the distance test.

  • You meet the time test.
