Solved: Mortgage prepayment penalty

can a prepayment penalty on a mortgage that i refinanced in 2006 still be claimed? I just discovered this error in 2017 while refinancing.

No, it can not. That must be claimed in the year paid and not in any other tax year. The time limit to file an amended return for 2006 to get a refund expired in 2010.
