I entered about 6K of medical expenses ion the detail fields. In the Federal summary Turbotax shows over 24K? How can this happen?

The summary is showing the itemized/standard deduction.

The standard deduction for married couples has increased to $24,000, which is greater than your medical expenses and other itemized deductions.

This is the number you are seeing.
