Medical expense deduction for tuition special needs

I have a son diagnosed with ADHD and has been sent to a private school for education. Where do I deduct tuition for this qualified school?

Private school tuition isn't deductible, and its not a medical expense either, at least not on the federal return.  Your state may have something special though.

I was told by school that tuition qualifies as a medical expense and received a letter from them saying that.

Then it would go in as Medical Expenses in Itemized Deductions, Schedule A.   Be sure you keep that letter should IRS ever question the deduction.

You can deduct it as a medical expense if the doctor recommended it.
