Massachusetts property taxes are on a Fiscal year that does not match the calendar year - how do I find the correct amount to claim if it isn't on my 1098 box 10?

Since Massachusetts property taxes follow a fiscal year from July 1 to June 30, If the amount isn't listed in Box 10 of your Form 1098, you can find the correct amount to claim by:

Reviewing Property Tax Bills: Check your quarterly property tax bills for the fiscal year. Massachusetts typically issues four quarterly tax bills

  •  Add up the amounts paid during the calendar year to determine the total property tax paid.

Contacting Your Mortgage Lender: If you pay property taxes through an escrow account, your mortgage lender should have records of the payments made. You can request a detailed statement from them

Accessing Online Tax Records: Many Massachusetts municipalities provide online access to property tax records. You can log in to your local tax assessor's website to view and print your payment history
