Perhaps I do not understand something but my feeling is that the Itemize/SD decision could be handled better.
For years now, and especially since Trump doubled the SD, I have overwhelmingly qualified to go SD. However, TurboTax seems happy to take me through the labor and record intensive activity of itemizing. This year, I had had enough of it and just clicked through the deductions areas. I usually do the "I'll choose what to work on" route, not the "Walk me through everything". This led to TT wanting me to fix some mortgage deduction info even though TT and I had already agreed on SD.
Doesn't going SD make all the itemizing stuff, mortgage, property tax, medical, etc, irrelevant? Or does the State filing (NC) benefit and help me with this info even if I went SD on Federal?
Thanks for either telling me I am wrong or if I am right considering a kinder approach. For example, after I had done the itemizing one year, you could say to me the next year: Fred, we noticed that you went SD last year. Have your itemized expenses risen by at least $15,000 this year? If so, we could explore itemizing, otherwise would you simply like to choose the SD?

TurboTax asks because many states have different limits and there might be state deductions you qualify for, but they are all entered in the Federal interview before doing the state.
