International Student US resident for tax purpose question

It is my first time to use Turbotax to complet tax information.
I am kind of confusing that it is mandatory to complete tax form?
This is my brief infomation:
At first, I used Sprintax. But according to my personal information, Sprintax classified me as US resident for tax purpose because I was in the US since 2009 December (I went back to my home country every summer for about two months). During seven years, I had no income but only receive non taxable scholarship from university in this year.
So, can you explain what US resident for tax purpose actually mean and things that I have to do?

i used turbo tax in 2015
