In TurboTax premium; how can I claim the cost of VAT forms as an unreimbursed tax? I'm US Military, with some foreign source income & taxes on a 1099-DIV but not earned

I went through the Foreign Taxes Deduction/Credit section of the questionnaire and entered the cost of the forms as a separate country entry from "RIC" (for the 1099-DIV), but left everything else blank. Turbotax seems to have ignored my entries and only showed the foreign tax credit for the taxes on the 1099-DIV. Can I add the expense to the "RIC" country, or somehow reflect income for the separate country?

Since the VAT tax is a sales tax, do not add this tax as a foreign tax paid in the Foreign Taxes Deduction/Credit section of your return. This would be reported as a sales tax that is reported as an itemized deduction in your return and may be claimed if your itemize deductions are greater than your standard deduction for the year.

  1. Go to federal or federal taxes
  2. Deductions and credits
  3. Estimates and other Taxes paid
  4. Sales Tax

Do not add this an expense anywhere else except where  I mentioned above.
