In MO, are Vehicle Personal Property Tax Fees the same as Car Registration fees? Where specifically can I enter vehicle personal property taxes? I'm unable to find it.

Yes, for Missouri, these would be the same as car registration fees.  You can view more information about this below.

You can find this section in TurboTax by -

  • Log into your account and clicking Take Me to My Return or open your desktop software program
  • Use the search function and search for “car registration fees” and then click the “jump to car registration fees” link that appears
  • Follow the interview prompts

Note:  TurboTax separates it out between car registration fees and personal property taxes, so you may see answers that reference either.  But, it is the same deduction - a deduction for personal property taxes - so it can be entered under either section (but not both).

You can also find this section by going to Federal Taxes -> Deductions and Credits -> Choose to see all deductions -> Cars and Other Things you own -> Car Registration Fees

Further information about these fees:

Car registration fees can be deductible as personal property taxes in certain states.  In order to be deductible, the fees must be charged based on the value of the property (car) and not other methods such as weight, size, or age. You must also have ownership of the property and it must be assessed on an annual basis.  You cannot deduct other fees related to cars such as taxes based on weight or special license plate fees or late payment fees.
