My ex-wife and I have (2) children, ages 8 & 10, who reside with her. For 2019 tax return filing, which we each filed in February 2020, we each claimed (1) child. We also each filed single, and each make less than $75k/yr. We also received our Federal tax returns in March, which were direct-deposited into our bank accounts. Today, we each received a Stimulus Check direct-deposited into our bank accounts. She received $1,700 ($1,200 + $500 for 1 child) and I received $1,200. What do I do in order to receive the missing $500 for the child which I claim ???
Was the child no older than 16 at the end of 2019 and was the child listed as a dependent and your child on the 1040 box 1-3 ? Did you get the 2019 child tax credit on line 13a of the 1040 form?
My child that I claimed is 8 years old, was listed as a dependent & my child on the 1040, and I received a 2019 child tax credit.
My other child, whom my ex-wife claimed, is 10 years old, was listed by my ex-wife as a dependent & her child on the 1040, and she received a 2019 child tax credit for that child.
Yet, my ex-wife received $1,700 Stimulus payment & I received a $1,200 Stimulus payment. So we have 1 child unaccounted for. What do I do in order to reconcile this?
Any help and/or suggestions would be immensely appreciated.
Thank You, in advance, for your time & effort regarding this matter.
@SoJerZ-naytiv - it will work itself out...here's how and why:
there are numerous press reports of dependents missing from the stimulus payments.
The IRS is supposed to send a letter in about 14 days explaining the payment and instructions to dispute it if incorrect. If the IRS is in error then wait for the letter.
I share a child with a woman we were never married but we share a 50/50 joint custody she claims even yours I claim are deers meaning I cleaned my child's 2019 neither one of us has received the $500 stimulus well I get it or we'll see or neither?
I think you meant she claims even years and you claim odd years ... if so then you may get it now based off the 2019 return AND she will get it on the 2020 return since this stimulus is technically an advance on the 2020 credit ... however don't count on it.
You are absolutely correct I clean tear of the year 2019 this past year I did not receive the $500 single parent head of household
