if you owed say the state the $500 and paid it, Turbotax will always show you owe the $500. that's because it never assumes the amount was paid. Even a payment scheduled thru the app can be revoked.
We can't see what you're looking at, but it's possible you are looking at a confusing summary page that TurboTax presents to users, where it sums (nets) the Federal and state returns to arrive at a net figure. For example, if someone is receiving a $300 Federal refund and also owed state taxes due of $900, that summary page nets those 2 figures and says $600 due. If you're looking at that summary page, were your state taxes that you paid about $500 more than your Federal refund you received? If so, TurboTax is just adding (netting) them to let people know how they made out at the end of the day.
That makes sense! Appreciate it. I relooked and yes that's what happened. Although I paid, they had the difference as "due" . I was like, I already paid everything in full, whats this extra 500?! Ha Thanks again!
Appreciate the response! That makes sense that they are not assuming you paid. It was just confusing caused what I owed the state was more. They just deducted the difference. Which is confusing because if I sent the state only 500 they would have been looking for me ha
