To enter your long-term care premiums:

  1. Sign in to TurboTax.
  2. Open or continue your return.
  3. Search for Schedule A and then select the Jump to link in the search results.
  4. Proceed through the medical expenses section and go past the Tell us about anything paid for long-term care services screen. This screen is for actual care expenses, not insurance premiums.
  5. When you reach the How much did you spend on insurance premiums? screen, and enter your gross (total) long-term care premiums.

Premiums for qualified long-term care insurance policies are only deductible on your 2022 federal taxes if you itemize, up to these per-person amounts:

  • $450 — under age 41 as of December 31, 2022
  • $850 — age 41–50 as of December 31, 2022
  • $1,690 — age 51–60 as of December 31, 2022
  • $4,510 — age 61–70 as of December 31, 2022
  • $5,640 — age 71 or higher as of December 31, 2022

Some states also have their own long-term care credit or deduction; when you do your state taxes, we'll let you know if your state offers tax breaks for long-term care.

I'm using the online version, and when I search for Schedule A, I don't see a Jump to link. I remember in past years I could get to the actual forms, but I cannot figure out how to do it with this current online version. Thanks for any further help.

If you would like to enter premiums paid for long-term care.  Follow these instructions:

1.  Go to Federal.

2.  Select Deductions and Credits (open full list of Deductions and Credits).

3. Choose Medical.

4.  Select Medical Expenses.

5.  If you've entered all your income, the first page will let you know if entering any medical expenses will help you with Deductions.  If you do not have more medical expenses, including your LTC premiums, than the figure on this page, your LTC premiums will not benefit you.  If your medical expenses are more than this figure, continue to the next page.

6.  On the next pages, there will be opportunities for entering other types of medical expenses.

7.  Continue until you see the option to enter your Long-Term Care Premiums.
