Property taxes are usually entered in the federal return and then transferred to the state return.
- It will be in the Deductions and Credits section.
- In Your Home, click on Show More
- If your property taxes were paid out of an escrow account from your mortgage payment, they may be in the Mortgage Interest and Refinancing (Form 1098) section.
- If you paid them separately, it will be in the Property (Real Estate) Taxes section
If the state return is not taking updates, it may be easiest to delete it and then add it again to transfer fresh information from the federal return.
Simply go to the State Taxes tab and select Continue, then click the Trash Can icon by your state. When you add it again it will pull the information in from the Federal return so most of the information will be recreated and you will just need to answer a few questions.
