Some TurboTax customers are experiencing an issue with their home mortgage average balance. This can cause the home mortgage interest to be incorrectly limited. This may be affecting your tax return.

Mine also keeps saying "needs review" after I entered all the amounts, and the letter boxes remain red (for mortgage interest, outstanding mortgage principal, mortgage insurance premiums, and property taxes). Will this be fixed soon?
I'm a co-borrower so entered all amounts as paid 50% by me. Insurance premiums and property taxes as $0 (as property tax was entered elsewhere). My social security was not on the tax document but name is included with the primary borrower.
Please help!
Here is the workaround:
If you have more than one 1098 form, I will recommend you to combine all 1098 forms and enter as one. I am attaching a TurboTax link for the instructions how to do claim your mortgage interests. Click here:
For tax years prior to 2018, your mortgage interest deduction is generally limited if all mortgages used to buy, construct, or improve your first home (and second home if applicable) total more than $1 million ($500,000 if you use married filing separately status). Beginning in 2018, this limit is lowered to $750,000. For more information about the mortgage interest deductions, click here: Mortgage Interest deduction
I only have one copy of 1098. I entered everything as required but it keeps saying "needs review" for mortgage interest. Is this a system/software issue going on? Has it been fixed yet?
How can I contact Turbo Tax by phone to help me with this issue?
The boxes remain red for mortgage interest, outstanding mortgage principal, mortgage insurance premiums after I entered the numbers.
Make sure you have entered all the information correctly from your Mortgage Interest Statement, 1098
Then run the error check again.
You can also go to the Forms mode and review, look for Schedule A.
To switch to Forms Mode, open your return, and then select the Forms icon in the upper-left corner of TurboTax (or select View from the top menu, then Go to Forms).
The Federal Information Worksheet will display and all the forms in your return will be listed on the left side. Simply select a form to open it.
To switch back to the interview, select the EasyStep icon in the upper-left corner, or choose Go to EasyStep from the View menu.
Tips
Note:
Your 1098 (Mortgage Interest Statement) shows how much mortgage interest, points, and (oftentimes) real estate/property tax you paid in the previous year.
If you didn't get your 1098 from your mortgage company by early February, you might be able to find this information on January's mortgage statement. Contact your lender if you think that your 1098 is missing information or if you need help deciphering it.
Here's how to enter your mortgage interest statement in TurboTax:
If you're using the mobile app, use these instructions.
