The answer may depend on the type of addiction. If the treatment was for alcohol or drug addiction, then those costs may be deducted as a medical expense on your tax return.
To receive a tax benefit from deducting medical expenses, the total amount must exceed 7.5% of your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) and you must be claiming itemized deductions. As you go through your return, enter the expenses in the Medical Expense section and TurboTax will give you guidance about whether you have enough expenses to claim as a deduction.
