I assume you are speaking of the Qualified Business Deduction.

For the short-term rental, you would report that on Schedule C as a business rather than Schedule E as a rental.

where to put the  information to generate schedule c, is it better to offset my taxes on schedule c or E. i have a W2 icome

If the property qualifies as a self-employment activity, you can enter the information (including income and expenses) under the Self-Employment topic in TurboTax. See Where do I enter Schedule C?

 

The easiest way to find any section of TurboTax Online is to go to Tax Tools in the left column >> Tools >> Topic Search. Type in your topic, click the topic in the list and then GO to go directly to the start of that section.

(In TurboTax for Desktop, use Show Topic List in the top menu.)

 

Regarding Schedule C versus Schedule E:

IRS Pub 527 states "If you provide substantial services that are primarily for your tenant's convenience, such as regular cleaning, changing linen, or maid service, report your rental income and expenses on Schedule C (Form 1040). Substantial services do not include the furnishing of heat and light, cleaning of public areas, trash collection, etc.

 

This is interpreted as running a hotel-like business, with tenant services. If you rent a furnished condo (with kitchen items and linen, for instance), you are not necessarily running a hotel. But if you change the linen and/or provide maid services during the tenant's stay, then this could be considered running a hotel, and the activity should be reported on Schedule C.

 

If you believe you are not running a hotel-like business, the short-term rental should be reported on Schedule E.

 

Net income from a Schedule C business is subject to self-employment taxes, while net rental income is taxed at the marginal tax rate for your tax bracket.
