When entering my data, I'm including the portion from payroll deduction plus the make-up amount I paid directly to the HSA. When comparing to last year's totals, it is showing only the $2,000 make-up amounts instead of the total contribution (the maximum allowed for 2022). Is that correct?

any payroll deductions for HSA are supposed to be deducted from box 1 of the w-2. that's how you get the deduction. they should show up in box 12w of w-2 along with any employer match and flow tp line 9 of the 8889 for yourself. do not enter payroll deductions as your contributions otherwise you will double up. Only direct contributions you make should be entered as your contributions
Yes, that's how I entered them. The amount in my W2 was entered in that box 12W and then I entered the make-up amount as paid outside payroll deduction. It just confused me because when comparing to last year it's showing our full HSA contribution amount but this year it's only showing the make-up amount. It's probably calculating correctly. Perhaps it's because of the new IRS reporting of the payroll deduction?
