Hsa contributions

Hsa Contributions.
We added money to the account when needed to pay for perscriptions. No money was added by our employer. Do i put that amount under contributions? i was approx 500$.

Did you send the money directly to the HSA plan administrator, or was it through a payroll deduction program? In the latter case, it should have appeared on your W-2 in box 12 with a code of "W".

If you sent the money directly to the HSA plan administrator, then do the following:

  • Go to the HSA interview (Federal Taxes->Deductions & Credits->Medical, click on "HSA MSA Contributions")
  • Proceed to the screen entitled "Let's enter [your name] HSA contributions" (see screenshot below).
  • Enter your contribution on the second line.
  • Be sure to finish the HSA interview (i.e.,  go until you are returned to the Your Tax Breaks screen)

However, if you made the contribution through your employer, once you enter the code W amount on your W-2, then you are finished. TurboTax will handle the rest.
