HSA 1099-sa gross distribution incorrect

We started a HSA at the beginning of 2018.  Money from my monthly salary was placed into the HSA.  My husband had surgery in Jan 2018 which produced bills larger than the available fund in the HSA so we paid with our personal CC.  We used the HSA debit card for smaller medical bills but waited until Jan 2019 to submit for reimbursement for the larger bills.  The 1099-sa shows only those distributions submitted during the year 2018.  Do I have to request an amended 1099 or do the distributions I submitted in Jan 2019 for reimbursements for medical bills in 2018 go towards the 2019 HSA 1099-sa?  I'm confused.

HSA 1099-sa gross distribution incorrect

Not a problem. The distributions are tied to the year they are distributed, not to the year that the contributions were made nor to the year the medical expenses were incurred.

So just enter the 1099-SA for 2018 as is, and expect to have another 1099-SA  for 2019 in early 2020.

We hope he has a successful recovery.
