Hello there, I have TurboTax desktop. I need get rid of form 1116 other deduction explanation statement since we are going to take the standard deduction. I tried to go to forms and delete the statement from there, but when I go to e-file my 1040, the statement came back again as an error. Therefore, I can’t do e-filing. Is there any other way to get rid of the explanation statement? or any box to check? I thought I checked everything correctly. Thank you.

It sounds like the statement generated based off of some prior entry that has since changed. Forms sometimes get "stuck" when this happens. One way to resolve it is to delete the Form and start the section over, but your proposed solution works, too, and will involve less work.
An explanation such as "this statement was created in error" will be fine. Since there will be no adjustment/deduction it shouldn't cause any headaches and will allow you to go ahead and file.
You can delete the statement with the form but not advisable. The form 1116 can be used as a deduction or a credit. Most people take the credit. Go back through the foreign tax credit and select credit. You can go back through your explanation statement, fix any issues and keep it. You can efile and have a bigger refund.
Hello, Thank you very much for replying. I did pick "take it as CREDIT", but the explanation statement for the Form 1116 is still there and I still can't e-file with that error! Can I just put something in the statement, e.g. Taking the foreign credit as credit, etc.
Thanks!

Thank you! This is helpful. I wish I could received your response earlier. I filed my return already. I called and talked to someone from Turbo tax (supposed to be a tax expert). She told me to override Line 3b on Form 1116 to 0 to get rid of the statement. I hope that's ok too....
Thanks!
Yes, that works as well!
