I'm doing the corporate taxes for the first time in TurboTax. Our accountant in prior years used the straight-line method for depreciating assets. When I entered everything in TurboTax it used MARCS so the amounts are off. Also, the life of the items does not always match the depreciation schedule from our accountant. How can I switch to straight-line method for all assets and change the life to match my current records?

What "EXACTLY" is the asset? Residential Rental Real Estate? usiness property or some kind of business asset? Farming property or some kind of farming equipment? It matters, as that determines how you do what you want to do. When was the asset place in service? On your 2018 tax return, looking at the IRS Form 4562 for *that* *specific* *asset*, what is the total depreciation already taken? (remember, add together the amounts in the "prior depr" column and "current year depr" column to get the correct answer.)
Finally, are you completing a 1065 return? Or maybe an 1120 or 1120-S return?
These are business assets: computer equipment, furniture and fixtures etc. And this is for an 1120. All of the correct information regarding previous depreciation taken has been entered. The method TurboTax is using does not match what our former accountant was doing. They are using MARCS and our accountant was using the S/L method.
There should be an option for an "other" asset category, then "other" again. That will let you enter things, including selecting Straight-Line (which is still part of MACRS).
However, the number of years ("Recovery Period") concerns me. If you selected the correct category in TurboTax, in most cases it should be correct number of years. So your previous tax return MIGHT be using the incorrect Recovery Period. Assuming you are using the General Depreciation System, computers are 5 years and in most cases furniture is 7 years. If you previous tax returns are showing something different, they MIGHT be wrong. Please post back with details if that is the case.
I accidently entered an answer on MACRS dep. pg. it won't let me change or delete it I need the info in my question above.
I used 18 years for everything.........Is this a further problem?
