How do I find how much property taxes i paid on my home?

If your mortgage payment include an escrow account for your property taxes the taxes paid will be on the Form 1098 you received from your lender.  Or contact your lender.

Or if you paid the taxes directly to your county/city then only you would know how much you paid.

If it is being paid from an escrow account with your mortgage lender, it will be on the 1098 provided to you by the lender.

Go to Federal> Deductions and Credits> Your Home to enter mortgage interest, property taxes, and loan origination fees (“points”) that you paid in 2023.  You should have a 1098 from your mortgage lender that shows this information.  Lenders send these in January/early February.

In addition to following the suggestions posted by @DoninGA and @xmasbaby0, see this TurboTax help article for ways to find out how much property tax you paid.

Keep in mind:

  • If you pay your property tax with your mortgage, you can only deduct it after your lender has paid the tax on your behalf. You can contact your lender to find out when they typically make these payments. (For example, a lender might make the payment in October to cover the total amount of the following year’s taxes, or they might make quarterly payments. It depends on the taxing authority in your location).
  • Claim the deduction in the year you made the payment. If you paid your 2024 property tax on December 14, 2023, claim it on your 2023 return.
