Be sure to indicate that the child lived wiht you all of 2016 (which is okay for newborns).

I did that and it said I qualified but didn't add it at the end of my tax form

How can a child live with parents for a whole year if it they are born in December? This does not make sense. Could you provide a link at irs.gov that supports your statement?
