I just downloaded TurboTax Home and Business 2024. I am unable to find the place where you can enter expenses as deductible either for the home office only, (e.g. office supplies); or for services for the entire home for which TT allocates the percentage of the service based on the percentage of your home office area to the whole house (say 8%).
I haven't had any problem with this since 2001, when I started the home office and have been using TurboTax ever since.
Does anyone have an idea as to how to get to this part of TT?
Thanks in advance.

Do you have a business listed?
Go to the Business tab (top)
Continue
I'll choose what to work on
"Business Income and Expenses" START or UPDATE
Select "Edit" for the business on the list
Scroll down to "Home Office Expense" under Business Expenses
Many thanks for your prompt reply KrisD.
There are other services and repairs done for the whole home, can I list the percentage area on that screen (e.g. electrical work, plumbing, pest control., etc.)
If you are entering an expense that pertains to the whole home, be sure to enter the total amount. TurboTax will calculate the percentage of the expense that will be applied to the home office portion of the home.
There should also be a message on the screen reminding you not to prorate the whole home expenses before entering them.
Thanks very much for your answer.
Since these expenses are for the whole home, is there a place where I can input them. This is also where i cannot fiind a space
Thanks.
Follow these steps:
Thank you for your prompt and detailed reply. I will do as you directed. You have been very helpful indeed.
My TurboTax Home & Business shows the following tabs:
PERSONAL INFO BUSINESS PERSONAL STATE TAXES REVIEW FILE
It does not show a Federal Income tab. Is it possible that I am using the wrong version of TT? If so, what version should I use?
Thanks
In Home & Business, select the Business tab to work on your business information.
See the screenshot that @KrisD posted yesterday to find where to enter the home office information.
Many thanks.
Ok. So i was able to have TT figure out the home office expenses. In 2024 I spent X amount to cover repairs (electrical, plumbing, etc) Where can i deduct the remainder of these amounts from my taxes?
Those would be included as additional expenses in the home office deduction interview. Home Office Deduction
Thanks. I will navigate through the interview and find the additional expenses. If I get stuck I will get back to you.
Thanks.
I tried to navigate to the place where I can input the large balances, but I could not. What I am trying to do is use the balances of these amounts as some sort of deductions from my taxes. Could you please help with navigation? Thanks.
If I am reading this correctly, you got to the office in home and entered the actual expenses as I directed above. You got the prorated amount for the office.
Then the rest of the expenses are for your personal home and is normal maintenance on your house that everyone does. People can claim mortgage interest and property taxes on their personal home. Are you trying to write off taking care of your house for the non-business portion or is there more to this story?
Thanks for your prompt reply.
To quote you: "Are you trying to write off taking care of your house for the non-business portion".
Yes, that is what I am trying to do.
