Form 8995 was generated saying I have $50 in REIT dividends when I didn't enter and don't have dividends in the amount of $50.

There are two places that REIT dividends can show up.

    • The first is if you have a dividend distribution and BOX 5 (Section 199A dividends) is filled out.  These are REIT Dividends.
    • The second is if you received a K-1, it may have a REIT component.

Where does data from Box 5 of 1099-DIV go after entering into appropriate lines of Form 8995?

The flow through the tax return is:

    1. Entered under 1099-DIV Box 5
    2. Flows to 8995 Line 6
    3. 20% Calculation entered on 8995 line 15
    4. Then carried to the 1040 line 10
