I filled out the information for the residential energy saving tax credit, completed and saved all my return information until form 5695 became available so I could file.
I received the email that the form was ready so yesterday, 2/8/24, I logged on and picked up where I left off, which was sign and file return. I completed the last step and filed my return.
The amount that was listed for my return was much less than Turbo Tax initially calculated, so I took a closer look and all of the information I filled out on form 5695 was no longer there. The line for the energy tax credit was blank.
I called support and was told they didn't know why it was removed, or deleted, but to file to amend my return. I wasn't satisfied with that answer, so I called support again and was told the form was filed with my return. I explained that the information was not listed on my return. They told me I would need to upgrade to live assistance and speak with a tax support agent.
Why should I have to pay extra for an error with their filing system?
Has anyone else had this issue? If so, should I amend? I'm frustrated and at a loss on what to do... and am given mixed information and instructions from the Turbo Tax support team.

It is very important for you to amend your tax return to obtain your credit. I can provide the information necessary to amend your tax return. I am unable to provide a clear answer as to why the form was blank and the credit was not part of the tax return.
You will be able to access and file an amended return on approximately February 14th (Form 1040-X). Use the link here to check to see when available:
Be sure to read all the instructions carefully, before you begin, so that TurboTax knows the original numbers and the changed numbers for your amendment.
No, you don't need to upgrade to Live service to ask about your return.
Print or save the PDF of your return. That's what you filed. If there is no form 5695, then it is not included. I actually believe that is what happened, because the form 5695 that was previously included was out of date and failed to include some important items. So it makes sense to me that it would be deleted rather than try and transfer information over that might be out of date or incomplete. Unfortunately, this was not clear in the update, but on the other hand you did have the opportunity to review and ask questions before filing and to notice the reduced amount.
There is a chance your return will be rejected, then you can add the credit and re-file and it doesn't count as an amended return. If your return is accepted, don't try and amend until your first claimed refund is paid. If the IRS adjusts your return for any reason, and you file the amended return without waiting, then the amended return will be incorrect as well.
