For the earned income credit, why was my unemployment added to my total adjusted income. It stated for EIC unemployment does not count as earned income?

For the earned income credit, why was my unemployment added to my total adjusted income. It stated for EIC unemployment does not count as earned income?
UEC does not count as "earned income" but it does count as total income, and both your earned income and your total income are used to determine your eligibility and amount of the credit.
