Question on W2 reporting for box 12 Code W.
Per the rules this must include both employer and employee contribution to an HSA.
An employer offers an HSA plan to its employees where they in turn elect to take a pretax payroll deduction to fund their HSA account. Additionally the employer also contributes a fixed dollar amount (not via payroll) via a direct deposit through a 3rd party admin. IRS HSA contribution limits are taken into account.
Question is will only the employee contributions reduce gross wages similar to pretax health premiums? Or will both the employer and employee contributions reduce gross wages on their w2?

only the employee contributions
HSA contributions made through a cafeteria plan are excludable from employees’ gross income and will not be subject to federal income tax withholding or FICA (Social Security and Medicare), FUTA (federal unemployment), or RRTA (Railroad Retirement Tax Act) taxes. Any contributions to your HSA made by your employer (including contributions made through a cafeteria plan) are excluded from your gross income.
HSA contributions made by your employer are a tax free benefit.
