Educational Expenses 1098-T

Educational Expenses

When I get to:

This section includes:

Form 1098-E

Form 1098-T

Scholarship and more

I select "Yes" (I Have a 1098-T for my son attending University)

On the next page I select "No" for:

ESA Beneficiary and Did you receive a Form 1099-Q

I am then directed to the Did you Pay for Books and Materials to Attend School page.

When I get to the books, supplies and equipment page I select "Yes".

Under the Enter Education Expenses it show "Tuition and enrollment fees"  as "$0"?  When I click on the blued "Tuition and enrollment fees" it has:

Note: You entered this number in earlier

I am able to enter in dollar amounts for books and materials but not "Tuition and enrollment fees".

I did not get to enter in the information from the 1098-T nor did I get the option?

Please help-Thanks You!

The Tuition & Fees are entered through the Form 1098-T on your return. To access the 1098-T you should:

  1. Enter 1098-T in the Search Magnifying Glass in the upper right hand corner of the screen,
  2. Select Jump to 1098-T.
  3. If the screen is not your Education Summary or asking "What's the Name of Your School? you will need to delete the Form 1098-T and reenter the information,

The way to get back to the Form 1098-T to enter information is to delete the form and reenter the information. To delete the form, you would:

  1. Select Tax Tools in the Black bar on the left hand side of the screen.
  2. Select Tools in the drop down menu.
  3. On the Tools Center Menu Select Delete a form.
  4. Locate the Form 1098-T and select Delete on the right side.
  5. You will be asked to confirm you want to delete the form.

You would then

  1. Enter 1098-T in the Search Magnifying Glass in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
  2. Select Jump to 1098-t
  3. Enter the information from the form again.

Thank you for the response.  However, I do not have a Tax Tools icon in the black bar to accomplish the deletion process.  I deleted the entire return and removed the program from my computer.  I re-installed the program and started again from scratch with a new return.  It did the same thing.  It skips over the screen where you would enter in the 1098-T information.  It will not let you go back to the start of the form and I can not delete the form to start new.  There are other users having the same issue.

I am not sure I understand how to delete the 1098-T form. You refer to a black bar on the left side of the screen. I do not see it.

Can you help?

Thanks!

The black bar on the left side of the screen is only seen when you are using one of the online versions of TurboTax.

If you are using a CD/downloaded version of the program, there will not be a black bar menu on the left side of the screen.

If you need to delete a form using a CD/downloaded version, see the following article for detailed instructions:

How do I delete a tax form in the TurboTax CD/download software?
