During my Federal View, Form 8889-T Line 18 Wkst, line A1 must be entered. I don't have a HSA. What did I do wrong in my tax return?

You innocently answered the question "Was [name] covered by a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) in 2016?" incorrectly. (See screenshot below).

An HDHP is a particular type of health insurance plan that qualifies you to have an HSA. If you didn't have HDHP coverage on 12/1/2016, then you should have answered "None", not "Self" or "Family".

If you actually had HDHP coverage on December 1, 2016 but did not contribute to an HSA in 2016 at all, then you can safely answer "None", because this question only applies to taxpayer who made contributions to their HSA in 2016.

It may happen that now that you have answered this question incorrectly, that TurboTax will insist on you completing the HSA interview and not let you e-file. The way to fix this is to delete all HSA information and then answer "none" if you see the question above again.

To delete the HSA information, please do the following:

1. make a copy of your W-2(s) (if you don't have the paper copies)

2. delete your W-2(s) (use the garbage can icon next to the W-2(s) on the Income screen

*** Desktop***

3. go to View (at the top), choose Forms, and select the desired form. Note the Delete Form button at the bottom of the screen.

*** Online ***

3. go to Tax Tools (on the left), and navigate to Tools->Delete a form

4. delete form(s) 1099-SA (if one), 8889-T, and 8889-S (if one)

5. go back and re-add your W-2(s), preferably adding them manually

Continue with your return.
