Donations via employer, Box 14 Charity on W2

If I import my W2, does/should TurboTax automatically list charitable donations (Box 14 CHRTY in my case) in the Charitable Donations section as well? Should I list the donation amount in that section or just leave it off? It's not clear to me if the import of the W2 also imports those charitable donations. Any way to check?

Thanks!

You edit the W-2, to see what the software marked for that field...sometimes it is correct, sometimes not.

In the Box 14 tax "Category" for that item., you make sure it is selected as a "Charitable Cash Contribution", or make that selection yourself from the pop-up list of Categories.  By doing that, the software will include it in your Charitable donations (but it might not list it in the manually entered charity Donations table you enter later.  But it will be included in the total that shows up on the main screen)

For instance, in both Desktop and Online software, I entered a $400 contribution to United Way in box 14,   categorized as a "Charitable Cash Contribution".  When I went into my Charities on the Deductions&Credits page, I already had 10,000 of other charity donations listed for things I put in some time ago, but the main menu screen for that area showed 10,400....AND...my Schedule A showed the full 10,400 on line 11 of the schedule A....so the extra $400 was added in by the software from the W-2 entry.

Of course, if you haven't entered enough itemized deductions to generate a Schedule A in the first place, it won't show up as am final charity deduction until you do.

That was the problem - it didn't automatically choose 'Charitable Cash Contribution' for that item. Thanks!!
