For Federal 2023 I am taking the standard deduction. But I want to take the itemized deduction for Hawaii. How to I do this? TT is forcing me to take the standard deduction for Hawaii if I do so for the Federal.

Enter your itemized deductions in the federal software even though you will only get the standard deduction on your federal return.  That information will flow over to your state return, and the software will use your state's rules on the state return.

The following states allow you to itemize deductions on just the state return: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, and Wisconsin,
