In 2023 I paid for a qualifying energy efficient tankless water heater, for which the Code provides that I should be entitled to a $600 credit. My understanding is that the law was changed for 2023 to provide that this credit is independent of home energy credits taken in past years. Form 5695 and the IRS instructions seem to bear this out. However, the TurboTax interview asks about past credits taken (which I have taken in the past) and, as the result the program eliminates my credits for 2023. I believe that this is not correct. Past credits should not impact 2023 credits. Has anyone else experienced this? Is the TurboTax interview incorrect? If you fill out the Form itself, there is no limitation for past credits taken. Thank you.

The Form 5695 Residential Energy Credits for tax year 2023 has not yet been finalized in TurboTax.
The Form 5695 is scheduled to be available in TurboTax on 01/31/2024 (subject to change).
Go to his TurboTax website for forms availability - https://form-status.app.intuit.com/tax-forms-availability/formsavailability?albRedirect=true&product...
It sure would have saved a lot of time for many of us if TurboTax would have put an alert in this section of the application to let users know they would not be able to complete the section until February. Frustrating.
