Why is the electric vehicle credit not ready for TurboTax when it is available by the IRS? When will it be available to complete by taxes? I am due a refund. Why did Intuit TT not respond to the prior person's questions from days ago? Giving a link to the support line is not helpful, nor do I consider it to be adequate customer service. I have really liked this product and have used it for many years, so hopefully this is a glitch and will be resolved quickly (or I will need to select a different product and return this one).
Form 8936, Qualified Plug-in Electric Drive Motor Vehicle Credit is scheduled to be available 12/12/20.
For further information please see the TurboTax website: IRS forms availability table for TurboTax individual (personal) tax products
So you are saying that the form won't be available until mid December 2020? Therefore, anyone that is getting an EV tax credit in 2019 cannot use Turbo Tax. Am I missing something?
Also, your link to the Form availability page shows for 8834 as currently available and 8936 as 2/12/20.
Did you mean 2/12/20, not 12/12/20?
Taxpayers are allowed a credit for the purchase of plug-in electric drive vehicles used for either business or personal purposes. The credit, which ranges between $2,500 and $7,500 for light-duty vehicles, varies depending on the weight of the vehicle and kilowatt hour of battery capacity.
The credit phases out for each car manufacturer when they reach a total of 200,000 electric cars sold for use in the United States.
To determine if you are eligible, click on Deductions & Credits under the Federal menu. Under Cars and Other Things You Own, choose Start/Revisit next to Energy-Efficient Vehicles. Currently, this form is not available, as TurboTax is waiting for updates on the approved vehicles. This credit is reported on Form 8936, which is estimated to become available on February 12, 2020.
Plug-In Electric Drive Vehicle Credit
OK, today is February 12th and Form 8936 is not showing on your web site as being available. Many of us are waiting for an income tax refund due to the credit. What’s going on, here?
I’ve had my taxes done for almost a month but waiting for this form. I’ve been checking every 15 minutes today. When today?
8936 isn’t even on the availability link you listed. I need this form to finish my taxes.
Form 8936 will be available in this week's release of TurboTax. The forms availability article will be updated when the release is made.
I am BEYOND frustrated. I paid and efiled my taxes on here on 2/15 as the form was actually available and ready and now my taxes have been rejected as the form is not IRS certified. I already paid turbotax - I could have filed through HR block . This is utter crap. I want a refund.
I'm in the exact same predicament. The IRS just rejected me because TurboTax miscalculated the vehicle tax credit, especially the Tesla models. Intuit does say they'll have a fix to form 8936 on 2/20/2020... but considering that form was delayed by almost 2 weeks in the first place... who knows if it'll actually be ready by then. I can't help but feel this is EXTREMELY sloppy and unprofessional work by Intuit, and I don't know if I can trust them to handle basic calculations for my taxes next year.
Looks like they rejected all tax filing for people who used TurboTax and were using form 8936 for their electric car. This is insane. After waiting this long. I paid 110 to TurboTax for this service and still taxes are not filed but rejected. Another friend of mine filed his taxes with his model x with no issues from another company.
We are aware of the issue and our team is in the processing of repairing it.

now it says something was wrong with the calculation and all. Once fixed is that going to change the amount of federal and state refunds.
