According to the Colorado Department of Revenue, retired servicemembers over age 55 are to put their 1099R from the MIlitary in Box 4 of the DR 0104AD (2024 version). Turbotax does not do that. Overriding it and manually entering it on line 4 pulls up the Pension and Annuity Exclusion Worksheet. Entering that value in line 4 and then going back to the DR 0104AD shows nothing (only the worksheet has the value).
Why isn't Turbotax accounting for this?

I assume that
1. you entered that you were a resident of Colorado before you entered the 1099-R
2. You entered the 1099-R, and told TurboTax that it was from a non-qualified plan (as military retirements are),
3. Before you entered anything in Forms mode, that you looked for Pens Excl Wks (Pension and Annuity Exclusion Worksheet) and saw that the distribution was included in line 1a.
When I did the motions above on my test return, the military pension was entered on form 1040AD, from the Pension and Annuity Exclusion Worksheet, this flowed through to the 104.
However, the Worksheet can limit the pension, which means that the number on the 1099-R may not remain the same as it flows through the Colorado return.
So, do it the way I describe and see what you get.
Very specific. Thank you. My first mistake was that I did not know the military retirement was a non-qualified plan. I changed that in Turbotax. Thanks. For the rest, it may be that the program does its magic and I'm just not seeing it. What I do see is the 1040 5b lists the pension. The Colorado Pens Excl Wks line 1a transfer over, and 1c lists the same amount. So I am GUESSING that this goes somewhere internally because it does NOT show up at all on the Colorado 104AD. Line 3 only lists my Social Security benefits. Line 4 (according to Colorado) is supposed to list the military. But it is blank. So I do not see how or where it is flowing through. Does that clarify a little?
