Check this entry: Beginning principal? My mortgage interest statement does not have a beginning principal amount. Only an ending principal balance. Where can I get it?

I would suggest looking at your prior year's mortgage interest statement for the ending balance 12/31/2017 which would be your balance on 1/1/2018.

My other suggestion is to call the mortgage company for the amount or you may be able to access it online.
