Hello. My husband has an active ITIN but our children and I have social security numbers. Will we qualify for the child tax credit? Last year it said we would receive but when we actually got our return the IRS adjusted it off due to his ITIN being expired I believe. So we renewed the ITIN number and got the letter stating it’s active. Thank you in advance for all answers.

You — and your spouse, if married filing a joint return — must have a Social Security number (SSN) or an IRS Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). Because you renewed the ITIN, you will be able to claim the credit (which will include the Advanced Payments that you did not receive last year.)

You can only claim the CTC if your qualifying children have Social Security Numbers. You and your spouse (if married) can have an ITIN or SSN.
